The Mustang is the car people react to. Heads turn at intersections, strangers ask about it at petrol stations, and someone at every wedding tells a story about the one their uncle had.
Ours is a 1964½, which is the detail collectors care about: the first cars off the line before the official 1965 model year, and the rarer of the two.
What makes a 1964½ different
Ford launched the Mustang in April 1964, part way through the model year. Cars built in that window are known as 1964½ models and carry a number of small mechanical and trim differences from the 1965 cars that followed.
It went on to become the fastest selling car in American history at launch and invented the pony car class outright. Sixty years later the shape is still instantly readable from a hundred metres away.

Where it is best driven
A Mustang is wasted in traffic. The car comes alive on the open, gently curving roads the Waikato is full of: the run west over the Te Uku hills to Raglan, the limestone country south towards Waitomo, or the farmland east towards Matamata.
If you are hiring it for the drive rather than the photographs, ask us about the Raglan route. It is the best road in the region and the Mustang is the right car for it.
